General Information

AAO’s Practice Opportunities & Careers is a confidential matching service that connects registered AAO members seeking orthodontic practice opportunities with those who have opportunities to offer. Providers can use the service to post opportunities and search seeker profiles/resumes. Seekers can create profiles, upload their resumes, and search for opportunities. Seekers are also notified of new opportunity listings based on their selected profile criteria. Please note that the service is intended for only those actively searching for practice opportunities.

Providers and seekers communicate directly with one another, and only they decide with whom to continue discussions. For providers who choose not to list contact information, seekers may use an internal messaging system to contact providers directly. The AAO is not involved in the discussions between providers and seekers.

There is no cost to AAO members who personally log into the service to request access and create a seeker profile.

The following orthodontic opportunities may be posted within the service:

  • Equipment for sale
  • Full-time associate
  • Part-time associate
  • Independent contractor
  • Lease/rent space
  • Locum tenens (short-term vacancies)
  • Partnership
  • Practice for Sale
  • Orthodontic faculty
  • Orthodontic program chair
  • Orthodontic program director

Policies and procedures are in place to safeguard the privacy of all AAO members and to protect their confidentiality. Seekers must agree to the terms of the service when requesting access.

Seekers must create profiles within 7 days after requesting access to maintain access to Practice Opportunities & Careers.

All profiles must be an accurate and true representation of background and experience. Misleading information will be removed.

Seekers MUST provide a valid email address in the email field to continue using the service.

In order to maintain the service’s reliability, only current profiles will remain published. Seekers are required to log into the service to manage their profiles. Each profile will automatically expire after 90 days and must be extended by the seeker as needed.

Seekers are required to acknowledge all inquiries (including those from the AAO Administrator) within 5 business days.

Seekers must immediately deactivate their profiles once a match is found. Please contact an administrator at admin@aaortho.org to deactivate your profile.

As a seeker you may only use the service if you post a seeker profile. Access will be terminated if your profile is not posted within 7 days of being granted access. If you prefer not to appear in the search results, you may choose to list your profile confidentially.

Yes, membership information is solely for the use of the AAO and AAO-sponsored programs.

  2. At the top of the website, click on "Careers" to navigate to Practice Opportunities & Careers.
  3. Scroll to the Seeker Features section (in dark gray) and click “Become a Seeker.”
  4. A user agreement window will appear, in which you will need to enter your electronic signature and check the agree box. The acceptable format for the electronic signature needs to begin with /s/ followed by name (e.g., /s/ Jane Doe). Click submit.
  5. Click on "Post Seeker Profile" on the Seeker Management Screen and complete the form with your information.

The AAO website has greater functionality with the latest versions of Internet Explorer. Use a newer version of Internet Explorer or another browser like Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome, or your mobile device/tablet to access the AAO website.

The format for your electronic signature may be incorrect on the user agreement. The acceptable format for the electronic signature needs to begin with /s/ followed by name (e.g., /s/ John Smith). Include the /s/ before your name and resubmit the user agreement.

The following are possible reasons you no longer have access:

  • Your access was terminated because you did not post a seeker profile within 7 days of requesting access.
  • Your access to the service has expired.
You will need to request access to the service again by following the steps listed below “How do I request access and post a seeker profile on Practice Opportunities & Careers?

Creating a Profile

By choosing the confidential option, your profile will not be searchable by providers. All form contact fields are required for internal use only and will not be shared.

The open option will only require your email address to be visible to providers. If you would like to remain in the search results and maintain confidentiality, you may choose to list “Confidential” within the Display Name field.

Yes. When completing the profile form:

  1. Scroll to the “Resume Upload” section and click the “Upload” button.
  2. Search your computer and select your CV/resume. Only Word documents (.doc) and PDF documents (.pdf) are accepted.

You can include a resume in the open text-field; however, the service does not include a resume builder feature. To create a resume, you may want to search for an online resume builder. These websites will allow you to create a resume which you can then post to your profile. You may also access the AAO’s Career Management Resources for resume development resources.

Your resume is attached to your profile for providers to view. When a provider reviews your resume and considers you for an opportunity, they may contact you based on your available contact information.

It is not required that you list your resume on your profile, but it is recommended. Listing your resume offers providers more information regarding your background and experience and increases your chances of being contacted.

Your “job alert” is created based on your preferences for location, start date, and/or specific type of opportunity. The broader your criteria, the more alerts you will receive each day or week depending on your delivery preference.
  2. The latest opportunities are listed on the Seeker Management screen under “Recent Opportunities.”
  3. When using the search function, the publish date is listed next to each opportunity in your search results.

Messaging

Some providers choose to list their opportunities confidentially. First, check the description to find out how the provider prefers to be contacted. If there is no contact information listed:

  1. Click “Send Provider a Message” below the opportunity title.
  2. Type the subject and body of your message in each respective field.
  3. Select “Choose files” to upload a document such as a resume (optional).

The purpose of the internal messaging feature is to maintain confidentiality so that the provider’s contact information is not revealed upon inquiry.
